How to Make Snow Cream: A Snow Day, Family Fun Recipe

These Northern Winters

I moved up to the frigid North a little over a decade ago when I married my husband. I could not believe that he had never heard of snow cream.

I hail from the South. When we would get snow it would be there one day and gone the next. Where I live now is VERY different. Snow often comes in Novemeber and it could stay until May.

You would think that you would find creative ways to utilize a natural ingredient source like snow. Maybe in the South we worked a little harder to have fun with it on our snow days because it seemed like such an anomaly some years.

Snow Cream Recipe

Snow Cream is incredibly easy to make and you can dress it up to your own tastes.

  • Step 1: Gather your snow. We don’t measure this by cups. Just grab your biggest bowl and fill it up. Make sure to only gather FRESH, CLEAN snow.
  • Step 2: Add 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract and one cup of sugar to your snow.
  • Step 3: Pour milk into the snow until you get a thick but creamy texture. This usually takes about 4 cups of milk for me for my biggest mixing bowl full of snow.
  • Step 4: Add your toppings for an extra bit of fun!

We like to add sprinkles, chocolate chips, and nuts into our Snow Cream. You might like to add fruit or even candy into your snow cream. There is no right way to do it, just add whatever you like.

Just a couple of important notes, Snow Cream melts quickly, so be sure you are ready to eat it right away. Make sure to eat it all, as it really doesn’t keep very well until the next day.

What do you do with all the snow after a blizzard? Make SNOW CREAM of course! #winterfun #snowday ?☃️❄️

A Treasured Family Tradition

Whenever we get a nice, thick layer of new snow we make Snow Cream. It is easy, budget friendly, and so much fun. We look forward to this family tradition every winter.
